If you’re dreaming of a honeymoon and wondering whether Breathless Riviera Cancun, an adults-only resort in the Riviera Maya, is the right fit for you, this review is for you. Choosing the perfect honeymoon resort can feel overwhelming, especially with so many options and mixed online reviews. What works for one couple may not work for another and that’s exactly why an honest, experience-based review matters.

Shelly will also cover what the island is like at that time of year, whether it’s worth leaving the resort for the day, and what honeymooners should know before adding this excursion to their itinerary.
By the end, you’ll have a clearer picture of whether this resort and the Isla Mujeres experience, truly matches your travel style, expectations, and honeymoon vision.

Breathless Riviera Cancun: Rooms, Dining & the Reality
Breathless Rooms-
For our stay, we booked an Oceanfront Junior Suite at Breathless Riviera Cancun, and the views were absolutely breathtaking. Waking up to the turquoise Caribbean Sea was truly a highlight of our honeymoon.
That said, the room experience wasn’t flawless. Housekeeping was inconsistent, and we had to request fresh towels due to visible stains, which was disappointing for a resort positioned as upscale. We also booked the Exhale (VIP) category, but it wasn’t worth the extra cost. Although Breathless shares the resort with Secrets, Secrets guests can reserve pool seating, while Breathless guests — even in Exhale — must still claim chairs early or risk not getting one at all.
Breathless Dining-
Dining at Breathless operates on a first-come, first-serve basis, even for guests who paid for VIP perks. Timing is everything. For à la carte restaurants, arriving between 6:00–6:30 PM is key. Arriving later often means long lines or not being seated until 9:00 PM.
Once you plan around the timing, the food itself is enjoyable, offering a good mix of seafood and international options. However, the lack of reservations can be frustrating, especially for honeymooners expecting a smoother dining experience.
Entertainment

Entertainment at Breathless Riviera Cancun is energetic and social, making it a good fit for couples who enjoy a party atmosphere. During the day, the resort hosts poolside music, themed activities, and interactive games that keep the vibe upbeat and energetic. If you prefer a quieter moment, there are very few spots around the resort where you can relax away from the main action.
In the evenings, the energy noticeably picks up. Expect live DJs, themed nights, shows, and events that encourage guests to mingle and stay out late. This is not a “quiet by 9 p.m.” This resort nights are designed to feel like a night club, celebratory, and high-energy.
That said, entertainment staff take the time to get to know you and honestly the best part of the resort overall.
For honeymooners, it’s important to know that Breathless leans lively rather than intimate. Couples who enjoy nightlife and meeting other travellers will love the vibe, while those seeking total tranquility may prefer balancing resort time with excursions or quieter areas of the property.
The Do's and Don'ts of a day trip to Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres is a very popular day-trip destination for travellers visiting Mexico, and for good reason. The island is beautiful, easy to reach, and offers a completely different pace compared to staying at a resort. There are many tour operators that offer boat tours with lunch included, but before booking one, there are a few important things to know.
Do: Take the Ferry Instead of a Tour
Rather than booking a tour operator, consider purchasing a round-trip ferry ticket, which typically costs around $25 per person. The ferry is straightforward, reliable, and gives you full control of your day without being tied to a schedule.
Do: Rent a Golf Cart and Explore on Your Own
Once on the island, rent a golf cart for the day and explore at your own pace. Golf carts are available everywhere and are easy to drive. This gives you the freedom to stop where you want, spend more time at spots you love, and skip areas that don’t interest you.
There are also taxi services that offer guided island tours, but with a golf cart, you can explore independently and on your own timeline.
Don’t: Book a Tour Operator Just for Convenience
Many tours advertise “free time” on the island, but this often means being dropped in busy areas for up to four hours, which is more time than most people need. In reality, the island itself can be comfortably explored in about an hour if you’re moving at a relaxed pace.
Don’t: Underestimate Vendor Traffic During Free Time
During extended free time with tour operators, local vendors may approach you frequently! Even while relaxing on the beach or swimming. While this is part of the island experience, it can feel constant and overwhelming, especially if you’re looking for a peaceful day.
Final Tip
If your goal is to save money, avoid crowds, and enjoy Isla Mujeres on your own terms, skipping the tour operator and going the ferry + golf cart route is often the best option.
This approach allows you to experience the island more comfortably, efficiently, and stress-free — especially during busy travel seasons.

Final Thoughts

Breathless Riviera Cancun offers a modern, high-energy adults-only experience that appeals to couples looking for a honeymoon with both relaxation and nightlife. The oceanfront views, stylish design, and lively entertainment create a fun and memorable atmosphere, especially for those who enjoy social settings and evening activities.
That said, this resort isn’t for everyone. Inconsistencies in room service and housekeeping, limitations around VIP perks, and the dining reservation process can be frustrating if you’re expecting a seamless luxury experience. Knowing these details ahead of time makes a big difference and allows you to plan your days and dinners more strategically.
Pairing your stay with a day trip to Isla Mujeres adds a nice balance to the trip, offering a more laid-back and authentic experience away from the resort crowds.
Overall, Breathless Riviera Cancun can be a great choice for honeymooners who value energy, atmosphere, and ocean views over quiet luxury — especially when expectations are set correctly from the start.
